About Amber
Amber is an entirely new way to buy and sell power, designed for a world powered by renewable energy. We give customers direct access to the real-time wholesale electricity price as it varies every 5 mins and the technology to shift more of their energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid. It’s a cheaper way to buy power, a smarter way to sell power, and the fastest way for Australia to reach 100% renewable energy.
We are a clear category leader in Australia for home battery automation and are growing rapidly (over 50k customers). We have also recently expanded into licensing our core technology to utilities overseas, including a partnership with E.ON Next in the UK.
Amber is backed by top Australian and international investors including Square Peg, Main Sequence, Breakthrough Victoria, Commonwealth Bank, NRMA, Gentrack, ETF Partners (UK/Europe based), and E.ON Next.
We are scaling rapidly and you’d be joining a team of over 180 committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and purpose-driven culture as we transform a major industry.
Our products are reshaping home energy: Amber for Batteries cuts bills by exporting stored energy at wholesale prices of up to $19/kWh, and Amber for EVs enables the cheapest, cleanest charging. In 2025, we will push this even further with our new vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology.
About the Role
At Amber we believe that enabling a culture where everyone at Amber is set up to do the best work of their lives and feels connected and supported is one of the most important things we can do to ensure Amber’s long-term success.
Want to help improve the environment by shifting the worlds energy usage towards renewables?
We’re looking for a Senior Growth Designer (Product) to own and drive customer growth, activation, and retention across Amber’s digital experiences. You’ll be joining our Product Growth stream, a cross-functional team focused on scaling Amber’s customer base, improving onboarding and conversion, and ensuring users quickly experience the value of clean, cheaper energy. You’ll bring experience designing at speed in a growth environment, turning insights into action and experimentation into impact.
This role is suited to a growth-minded senior product designer who thrives in fast-moving, data-informed environments and is comfortable making judgment calls in ambiguous problem spaces. You’ll combine strong product design craft with an experimentation mindset, balancing speed with quality while shipping, measuring, and iterating at pace.
The role involves working closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Marketers, and Analysts to identify high-leverage opportunities and turn insights into measurable outcomes, whilst also being part of a broader Product Design team, contributing to design quality and output beyond your immediate stream.
Amber is reshaping how people buy and use energy, giving customers real-time access to the renewable grid and helping them shift energy usage to when it’s clean and affordable. We’re building the products that accelerate the transition to 100% renewable energy at scale.
🖊️ About You
You have experience working in high-growth product environments, ideally within a start-up or scale-up where experimentation and iteration are core to success.
You’re comfortable working at speed, designing within growth loops, and turning data into design opportunities.
You understand the mechanics of activation, conversion, and retention, and know how to use research, insight, and intuition to remove friction and motivate action.
You balance the creative energy of rapid testing with a strong sense of ownership for cohesion, quality, and long-term product integrity.

👉🏽 In this role, you’ll:

  • Lead design for Amber’s Product Growth stream, shaping acquisition, onboarding, and retention experiences.
  • Identify and design high-impact opportunities to improve user activation, engagement, and conversion.
  • Continuously iterate and improve existing flows to ensure the highest quality design, contributing learnings back to the wider design team.
  • Work closely with Product, Data, and Marketing to define hypotheses and run experiments across the funnel.
  • Use data, user research, and behavioural insights to inform and prioritise design decisions.
  • Assist Marketing with design input and expertise for high leverage campaigns & projects
  • Design and test variations of flows, messaging, and interactions. Optimising for clarity, simplicity, and motivation.
  • Ensure that all growth initiatives align with Amber’s brand, product vision, and long-term customer trust.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to move quickly from idea to implementation while maintaining a high-quality bar.
  • Own the E2E customer journey from consideration through past conversion, proactively identifying gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities across Product Growth and the wider Amber experience.

🔑 Key Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Growth & Experimentation Strategy
  • Use experimentation frameworks to drive customer acquisition, activation, and retention. Translate insights into clear hypotheses and design testable solutions that deliver measurable impact across the growth funnel.
  • Customer Insight & Conversion Design
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer motivations, behaviours, and barriers to action. Design experiences that simplify complexity, build trust, and encourage positive energy behaviours at key moments in the journey.
  • End-to-End Journey Ownership
  • Own the end-to-end customer experience from consideration through conversion and beyond. Push for cohesion and consistency across Product Growth surface areas, and ensure alignment with the wider Amber product experience and brand.
  • Continuous Improvement & Design Quality
  • Continuously iterate and improve existing flows to ensure the highest quality design outcomes. Balance speed and experimentation with a strong craft bar, ensuring improvements compound into a more refined and cohesive product over time.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Data Analysts, and Marketing to identify high-leverage opportunities. Collaborate effectively across disciplines, balancing creative exploration with data-informed decision-making.
  • Marketing Design Partnership
  • Provide design input and expertise to support high-impact marketing campaigns and initiatives. Help ensure growth experiments and marketing touchpoints feel integrated, consistent, and aligned with the product experience.
  • End-to-End Design Execution
  • Deliver solutions from concept through testing to impact. Including flows, UI, copy, and interactions, all with speed, clarity, and attention to detail. Work closely with Engineering to move quickly from idea to implementation.
  • Measurement & Iteration
  • Evaluate outcomes, not just outputs. Use quantitative and qualitative data to refine and improve work. Share learnings openly and use insights from experiments to inform future design decisions.
  • Craft & Consistency
  • Maintain a high bar for design quality in a fast-moving, test-and-learn environment. Ensure growth initiatives contribute to a cohesive, trustworthy, and high-quality experience across Amber’s product ecosystem.
