⚡About Amber
Amber is an entirely new way of thinking about buying, banking and selling energy – where home energy technology works to put money back in customers’ pockets and accelerate the renewable energy transition. Everything we build is about making that possible and putting traditional retailers in the shade.
We believe the cheapest, fastest and most rewarding way to reach 100% renewables is to automate the growing wave of home batteries and EVs. Customers get direct access to the real-time wholesale electricity price and the technology to shift energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid and exported to the grid at times when the price they can be paid for it is highest.
We are backed by Australia’s leading VCs (including Square Peg Capital, Main Sequence Ventures, Rubio Impact Ventures, and Breakthrough Victoria), impact-focused investors and individuals, and most recently by Commonwealth Bank, NRMA, Gentrack and ETF Partners (UK/Europe based).
We are growing rapidly and have thousands of customers who love what we are doing and a great product that will play a significant role in driving Australia and the world towards a renewable future.
We’re now at a critical moment in taking the business to real scale as we disrupt a huge market for the better. You’d be a part of a rapidly growing team of over 150, with expertise across energy, technology, marketing, and operations. We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world.
Amber for Batteries unlocks more value for homeowners with batteries, driving down their energy bills and their payback periods. By storing energy when it’s cheap and exporting it to the grid for wholesale feed-in rates of up to $19/kWh, Amber’s software is completely changing the economics of home batteries and accelerating the energy transition.
Amber for EVs is our EV smart charging solution that helps EV owners save on their charging costs by using more cheap, renewable energy - whether that’s their own excess solar energy, or renewable energy that’s abundant in the grid. In 2025, we are kicking off development of our game-changing vehicle-to-grid technology.
Why we need this role
💡 Mindset Over Experience: We care more about your attitude than your experience.
At Amber, we believe that enabling a culture where everyone is set up to do the best work of their lives and feel connected and empowered is the most important thing we can do to ensure our long-term success. We see managers as the key drivers of our people processes and strategy, and People Ops works closely with leaders to reduce friction across the organisation.
As a People & Talent Advisor, you’ll play a key role by supporting the People Operations team to deliver and execute projects that eliminate high friction, amplify community and set our people up for success.
Reporting to the Senior People Operations Manager, the ideal candidate is a fast learner who thrives in a dynamic environment. You don’t wait for permission, you figure things out, pride yourself on being resourceful. You love supporting your colleagues and solving problems creatively. You bring deep attention to detail, curiosity, and a “how can I help?” attitude to everything you do. This role is best suited to someone who has “T shaped” skills: comfortable spanning the breadth of People Ops and Talent Acquisition, and will go deep into certain projects and functions as the business requires.
We are a lean team who likes to simplify the overcomplicated. There is a real opportunity to make a big impact in our small People Ops team and grow with the company. You will be exposed to many learning opportunities as Amber scales, so we are looking for someone who is ready to take the opportunities with both hands 🙂

What you’ll be doing

  • Help our hiring managers to recruit top talent through coordination of recruitment processes and hosting screening interviews
  • Note: Some of this hiring will be for roles in EU/UK. The candidate should be comfortable flexing their hours some days outside of the 9-5 in Australia.
  • Design and coordinate regular company-wide events
  • Manage the back-end of our HRIS, Rippling
  • Facilitate the onboarding and offboarding of employees
  • Respond to employee queries via Inbox and Slack
  • Create process and educational documentation to create a more ‘self service’ employee & manager experience
  • Assist the People Ops team with ad-hoc projects as they arise (and they often do!)

What boxes you should tick (mostly)

  • A few years experience in People Operations (HR) and Talent Acquisition.
  • Experience managing an HRIS and ATS (from the back-end)
  • Outstanding communication skills; written & verbal, talking and listening
  • Ability to conduct interviews and quickly form judgments on candidate suitability
  • Ability to manipulate and analyse data for reporting
  • Basic understanding of Australian employment law
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally, building and maintaining trust with internal stakeholders
  • Experience coordinating events that build company culture
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

Nice to haves:

  • Prior experience at a growing company, a start-up, or a tech company; understanding the joys and pain points
  • Passionate about technology, energy and/or the environment
  • Experience hiring technical roles - software engineers, product managers, etc.

What you’re good at:

  • You love taking action - prioritise efficiency over perfection, happy to work quickly and juggle competing priorities
  • You’re persistent and adaptable - you will be working in a fast-paced and changing environment, often faced with hurdles to jump, but you adapt well to change and can deal with pressure
  • You’re a people person - you’re empathetic, you care about the employee experience, and people feel they can easily work with you
  • You value great communication - you are an active listener, and know the right words to use
  • You’re a problem-solver - you embrace challenges, think on your feet, and are resourceful

Why you want to work at Amber

  • Be part of a growing technology start-up that will shape the future of renewable energy around the world
  • Flexible working arrangements available, with regular WFH arrangements and a central hub in Melbourne CBD
  • Equitable gender-neutral parental leave policies
  • An external Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) for mental health support
  • Employee share option plan (ESOP) in Amber
  • Annual Learning & Development budget to support your personal growth
  • Additional PTO between Xmas & New Year
This is a full-time role, to be based ideally from Melbourne.
We are also open to you working 4 days a week or 9 days a fortnight, or other suitable flexible working arrangements.
We do have an office in the Melbourne CBD, where we work flexibly between the office and home (no office mandate). For those based in Sydney, catch up in a co-working space, or if you are based elsewhere in Australia, you will work from home. We have also recently got a co-working space in London, UK! We expect to remain Melbourne-based but maintain flexibility.
🌈 If this kind of work gets you excited, we'd love to hear from you!
Even if you don’t meet 100% of the requirements listed above, we still encourage you to apply. We're open to all backgrounds and encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply. We never discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status.
Hiring Process
- A screening interview with our talent team
- A take-home project to complete
- A follow up interview to discuss your project and your skills & experience with the Hiring Manager and the People Ops team
- A culture interview with two of our Amber Culture Champs
- A final chat with our co-CEO and another member of Exec
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and applications will be accepted only from candidates already based in Australia, preferably Melbourne with full working rights!
No recruitment firms please. We've got this!
